I was trying to upload some pictures from last night meal directly from the iPhone but I’m getting invalid picture format.

Default Time to start taking the lights down

It's probably going to take 3-4 weeks to get everything taken down and put away.

Frohe Weihnacht from rainy northern California! (see window and outside background in photo below).

Since I appear to be first to revive this thread, I decree that this year's photo-sharing subject is holiday decorations, either your own or your favorite ones from your neighborhood, or town, or city of residence.

Below: Other people may have bigger and fancier Christmas trees, but I have no fewer than *three* of them - that's a little 3-footer (1-meter-er, for you metric folks) which I bought from the downstairs Whole Foods on the right, a little 18"-high decorative fake tree on the left, and a tiny little 6-inch-high one next to the little toy houses just to the right of that. Most importantly of all, I have the awesome - or as the techno-hipsters might say, "teh awesome" - wooden train set shown in the photo, which my nephews are surely gonna put to good use when their parents bring them over this evening. So there. :)

Happy holidays, and all "teh best" to you for 2019!

Default Happy Holidays Everyone!!!

I hope you don't mind my sharing...

I've been invited to Christmas Dinner with friends tomorrow (Linda's in England this year), and I've been asked to bring some of my "world famous" Halsall Sushi, including my signature (but blasphemous to some purists) "Breakfast Special" (Tamagoyaki (Japanese omelette; amazing difficult to make correctly) and crispy bacon).

Well, I couldn't find proper sushi (AKA glutinous) rice anywhere on the island!

I was freaking out, but I think I've figured out how to use basmati rice instead. Soak for several hours before cooking; cook very slowly for a longer time; let stand for a longer than normal period. With the proper rice vinegar with extra sugar, it should be sticky enough for the maki sushi I do (I'm not up to nigiri level yet!).

The first batch seemed to be workable, so while I waited for the second batch to sit, I drove up to our local gas station for some ciggies... Utter bedlam! Why?

It turns out that every single gas station in Barbados has run out of gas (petrol), and many drivers didn't foresee this as a possibility!

I guess the moral of the story is always be prepared, but also adaptable. And to never forget that no matter how bad you might have it, many others have it much worse!!!

Happy Holidays everyone! I really am very thankful this community exists!
