Patience is a virtue.

The data for this project is coming in so fast that the transfers are taking longer than they did on the previous project. As a result, the stats update doesn't occur quite as soon after 0000Z as it did before.

If you want predictability, I can change the system so that we post Saturday's work the following Friday. (Just like your pay check)

Within the next 2-3 weeks I'm getting a new Athlon 64 3200+ (2 GHz) machine for my lab for about US$1000 with monitor. I'll let you know how it does.

Unfortunately, the standard client will not fully utilize the 64 bit registers. I would expect some speedup, but not a lot until we have a custom build for that machine.

The numbers I quoted earlier are, of course, with the 32-bit client running on an Opteron. The Athlon 64 is essentially an Opteron 1xx with only a single-channel non-ECC memory controller instead of a dual channel ECC. While I expect some performance hit due to the reduced memory bandwidth as compared to the Opteron I still anticipate significantly better performance than an Athlon XP or P4. I'll let ya know in a couple of weeks. When the 64-bit build of the client arrives, it will hopefully improve the performance of both the Opteron and Athlon 64. BTW, I suspect your developers have access to an AMD64 machine, but if not I can arrange access to one running Linux if they're interested.

i think i've to forget my idea about the dual, cause i was thinking to buy an XP 3200+ and in 3 weeks, buy another CPU with the motherboard in a month. But for dual, i've to buy a MP type :(

we already reach the 1/5 of the project, that's REALLY COOL :)
