That makes sense; and, indeed, with the factors of 2 removed from the polynomial the matrix build works fine. Just for reassurance I am rerunning with the factors of 2 removed but without futzing around with the relations file, and expect that to work fine too (update: it is working fine). Thanks for your help, and I'm sorry that version of my polynomial-creating script made such a dumb error.

Maybe msieve should issue a warning (or error) if gcd(Y1,Y0) != 1 and/or gcd(f[6],...,f[0]) != 1 ?
