Hi,
I searched the forum and could not find a more appropriate section. Mods, please move where appropriate. * Folder work-x on computer A contains the x.in file. * Primo runs on computer A for 2 days, processing file x.in * After 2 days, the Primo run is aborted and the folder work-x is copied/moved to computer B * Primo is made to run another run on the file x.in on computer B ** Would the run start from scratch or would the previous work on computer A be used and the run would finish faster? Thank you in advance. |

If the entire folder is moved to the second computer, then Prime95 should continue working where the first computer stopped. P95 generates "save files" which record the state of progress on an assignment. Under default settings, these files will be in groups of three:
[apha-numeric string] + no extension, + .bu + .bu2 |

I will have to research prime 95 (I don't know anything about that). Thank you again for the reply. |

I recall reading a thread on this forum (probably old version) that stated that the program would pickup where it was interrupted due to power failure or update. I also aborted a run to test just that. But IIRC it started showing test 1 rather than higher number it had before. This may or may not be a conflict. I will run a small prime test when feasible and report here if it is not settled. Thank you for the reply. |

I have never pressed "abort". I would just kill the Primo process with killall primo.

For the record I know one thing that would work if the machine is virtual you can pause/save-state and resume later. |

It is equivalent to what happens when you shutdown the machine. It works for me. I think pressing "abort" stops what Primo is doing and cleans up the files -- that is why I have never pressed it.
![]() To resume you need to select the appropriate "tmp" file -- you know which it is by its timestamp. Last fiddled with by paulunderwood on 2016-02-29 at 18:23 |

My apologies. I mis-identified the software you are asking about. I was unaware of Primo. My answer may not apply in whole, or in part.

I will have to look into Prime 95 anyways and this thread is in the GIMPS section because I can't find a general software section. Thanks again for letting me know about Prime 95. |
