Perhaps I'm too late now, but I really don't have the time and energy to take part in two voting games.

Is there any chance of a reconsideration? My suggestion for the impasse is as follows:

Re-vote, but people are only eligible to vote if either (1) they did not vote in the original move 18 poll, or (2) they are changing their vote. In other words, a vote identical to the vote in the original poll is invalid.

Is there any enthusiasm for this?

My thought is that you would not need to participate in two games. Just participate in the one with Rab1 since you like that move. I would have been happy to have only LaurV and me participate in a "side" Qxb6 game if more people had voted for Rab1. Not everyone has to participate in both games.

Well, that's a good practical suggestion, but I guess I'm just feeling a bit annoyed that the game was unilaterally split in two after a minimal discussion while we Europeans were asleep in bed. Psychologically, it's difficult to feel I'm taking part properly anymore if I just choose one game.

Sorry if I sound petulant. Is there anyone else who's unhappy about what has been done?

Yeah, I was surprised at how quick it happened.

We could suspend one of the games, finish one line, and come back and finish the other one. There is no rush. Comments? [If we decide to go this route, to avoid unfair advantage, we should play both moves 19a & 19b, but then SF will continue with only the "a" variation to the end]

There was some consensus regarding forking the games. And if someone (say, Dubslow) had voted to break the tie, that would also be effectively a unilateral decision.

I agree that it would be difficult for a person to fully participate in both the games simultaneously.

This would be fine by me. Only problem: we'd need to decide, amically or with another vote, which version to do first.

Since we'll eventually play both, it shouldn't matter. We can go alphabetically, "a" variation followed by "b".

I think if I had remembered to check on the forum before midnight as opposed to 15 minutes after, I might have voted for Qxb6... though I was of course extremely hesitant about actually doing such a thing, as I have not substantially participated nor put more than 10 minutes of thought into the decision.

I much prefer any variation of the fork, either simultaneously or sequentially. MooMoo2 has already expressed that he is okay with the former; I don't know if he'd be okay with the latter.

That's it! You just now posted your vote for Qxb6. We can eliminate the other game now.

Of course us queen swappers would like to play ours first because we're confident that the game will be drawn more quickly than the rook movers.

I have no problem in participating in both games. I have two chess boards with me at all times anyway, even when I'm out of town. It's the only easy way to do myriads of variations in any reasonable amount of time. I'm sure others situations are different though.

As a rook mover, I'm also quite happy for the 18.Qxb6 version to be played first because I think it will lose quickly and we can then soon get on with the other game.

That would mean doing 19a first, as per axn's suggestion too.

The latter option is fine with me.
