I would suggest a poll, but I think we all know what the outcome of that poll would be.

Reminds me of the old joke popular in the former communist countries (but somehow universal): If elections could change anything, politicians would have banned them long ago.

I have no issues with Bob Silverman, we even exchange private messages and emails.

Hard to predict. I wouldn't mind seeing him come back.

His behavior was childish. If he would let the rest of us point out the problems with what others post, then he could be more constructive in other areas, but I don't see that happening.

How about a compromise: unban him but make it so that his posts must be approved by a moderator?

You just gave the mods more work. I'm pretty sure mods hate that kind of workload.

If I was wasn't away most days now, I'd possibly be able to deal with it in my blog area, a bit, ( not like a super mod obviously). I'm not sure an area all to himself would work for him or not.

I had thought about that at one time. See this post from earlier in this thread http://www.mersenneforum.org/showpos...0&postcount=21
Please check out the material I link to. Also in the list of links I posted above there is one that is highly misogynistic.

I actually enjoyed Silverman, much like I enjoyed David. Getting out of one's comfort zone should be encouraged.

We tried that for a while. It was tedious for the moderators to debate each post deciding which one(s) finally crossed the line.

As to a poll and/or unban, what's the point? History will repeat itself. RDS would be a useful contributor for somewhere between a week and a several months. Then he'd go off the rails and be banned again.

RDS was offered his own blog area with full moderator privileges within. There was no interest.
