Grrrrr..... the troubles begin
The H110 CPU which ran fine for 5 or so days is now experiencing hangs. Unfortunately, 3 things have changed since that period of stability. 1) Switched to network boot and NFS storage. 2) Undervolting CPU by 35mV. and 3) Undervolting RAM to 1.2V. So one of those changes is causing instability (or I was just lucky in avoiding the hang for 5 days). The Z170 system has not experienced any problems (yet) with the CPU undervolted by 40mV. The good news is the two CPUs returned 3 matching DCs. Now the painful process of isolating the cause..... |

George, I was just looking at mobo options again. I hadn't realized that not all Micro-ATX boards are the same size. In particular, I noticed that the ASRock H110M-DGS (Micro-ATX) is only about 3/4 of an inch bigger than the ASRock H110M-ITX (the board I believe we've both been buying lately). The Micro-ATX version though is running about $20 cheaper on Newegg. I'm curious though if in fact there is any power difference. I'll probably order one soon and let you know.
PS. Good luck with the troubleshooting on the H110. My H110 hasn't had any issues yet, but I haven't done any voltage adjustments either (except for allowing the NonZ OC to make the RAM adjustment, I didn't over-ride that). Last fiddled with by Fred on 2016-02-29 at 14:26 |

George, how are you connecting the PicoPSUs to the Platinum power supply? Cutting wires? Or have you found an adapter?

Do double check the pin outs on the power supply before plugging everything in: I've heard manufacturers aren't consistent even within their own products (such as Corsair). Edit: I mean to say the plugs on the power supply itself, not the plugs that would plug into a graphics card. Last fiddled with by Mark Rose on 2016-03-13 at 20:53 |

Update: Third CPU up and running. This is another Asrock HTX-110 mobo, with i5-6500, memory OCed to "Sport+", RAM voltage at 1.2V, CPU undervolted by 40mV.
Two hours of 4 thread torture test OK. Total watts at the wall increased 57W using a 92% efficient CPU. Started a 1 worker, 4 thread DC, hangs quickly. Tried -30mV, used 58W, still hung fairly quickly. Tried -20mV, used 59W, hung after a little while. I found this odd since a torture test ran 2 hours at -40mV. I wondered if the OS/CPU is trying to enter a lower voltage state when an auxiliary thread goes idle for a short period. i7z indicates that the CPU is entering a C1 state occasionally. So,.... I disabled C states in the BIOS, reverted to -30mV, and am now at 18 hours without a hang. At some point, I'll try -40mV again and if successful also try -40mV on the other H110 mobo. |
