Default Move 9 poll: Everyone vs. Stockfish

Here's the poll for move 9. It closes in 2 days, and the discussion can be found at: http://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=20717

I noticed that the discussion only lasted for 2 days before the poll was started. I also see that the poll only lasts for 2 days...a total of 4 days. Can we change that back to 3 days each...a total of 6 days...for upcoming moves? The book branches out into several reasonable lines at this point and I think more discussion will be needed.

Sure! The discussion and poll times were quite short for this move and for the previous one because there seemed to be a clear favorite move (dxc5 here and O-O earlier) and little support for alternate moves. However, I'll change it back to 3 days each in the future unless there's a very obvious move to be played.

Thanks, but I would appreciate an even more formal approach. My suggestion: 3 days discussion, followed by a 3 day poll, unless White has only one legal move. Judging the mood of the players of White will usually be subjective. As the operator of Stockfish, you do represent the opposition after all, and I'm sure you want to seem entirely impartial.
And reducing the time allowed for voting in the poll makes no sense to me anyway. As I see it, the main function of the 3 days is to maximise the number of those available to vote considering that some people only drop by the forum occasionally.

We should have the option of waiving this rule. There may be cases when there's more than one legal move but only one reasonable move. A position may arise where one of us points out that a certain move captures Black's queen and keeps us in the game, but all other legal moves lead to us being checkmated within the next few moves.

On the other hand, we should be able to extend the discussion period if the situation calls for it, like when there's a heated discussion between several moves that all seem equally good.

I haven't been following the game too closely, but I did notice that most votes occurred within the first few hours of the poll opening, and there were no votes made on the third day of the poll. The polls were open for 3 days on moves 3-7, and 7 people voted in each poll. The previous poll, which was open for 2 days, had 8 votes, and this poll already has 8 votes even though it's been open for less than 12 hours.

I agree in principle, but the question should then we asked: who is "we"? Under what precise circumstances would we be able to say that there is a consensus for altering the length of the discussion period? That is not clear to me.

Well, I for one do not guarantee to get here every day. A three day poll would give me the confidence that I would not miss it. I doubt if I am unusual in that.
