Oh, all right! The odds are good and I never do sell books, anyway...

Smile Free book gift

This rather reminds me of an old "poruchik Rzhevsky"-style anecdote (but without obscenities, which is untypical of those):
Quote:
The officers decide on a gift to poruchik Rzhevsky. They can't think of anything.
Suddenly one remembers: "a book is a man's best friend". They initially cheer for the good thought, but then one of them says:
-- "Nah, it won't work."
-- "Why??"
-- He already has a book (!!)

Also,

"Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read."

The Groucho Marx quote is one of my favorites. It uses my style of wordplay. I first saw it printed on a bookstore totebag.

When I was a kid, I truly did not understand the intended double-entendre humor in his:
"If I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me."

I'm going to check one or two neighborhood used bookstore places this weekend. I don't expect to find a copy for someone else but one never does knows does one?

Maybe others could check a place or two; after all, the book isn't truly rare, it is just circumstantially scarce because we are using it. If I find a copy I will offer it in this thread.

I don't think not having the book will hinder determined people that greatly. I think there will be enough context in discussions for people to glean what is being covered and even some specific details. The book looks to be organized nicely but my opinion is not particularly noteworthy; I view myself as a mathematical novice / borderline crank.

In fact, one of the ways I can contribute, if at all, is to help others know what is going on in the book at some point (much as I did when I summarized the author's preface) and to perhaps commit a few stupid errors that get answers that others might be too embarrassed to ask for.

Rumor has it there will be a second drawing for a book. Chappy is organizing that effort.
