Welcome to the forums! No need to apologize.
Anyone out there care to make a Windows help file? I gave up after MicroSoft changed help file formats for a 3rd time. I use Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 with MFC - I wouldn't be surprised if it was impossible to do new-style help from an old-style development platform. |

The old help format, while not perfect, had a lot of features (including indexing, and ways of help integration from different vendors). It had a rich set of tools developed around the format, it was easy to implement and everybody was using it.
These days, if there is any kind of help at all [in programs, tools, and utilities], more often than not it just opens up a webpage in the browser. Good luck, if you are not connected to the Internet. I think it was security vulnerabilities that were officially named as the reason for retiring the old help format. IMHO, it would have been better to plug the security holes and keep on building upon the old help format, rather that killing it all together. BTW, Visual Studio 2005 is about to get officially retired: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle?p1=3041 Last fiddled with by TObject on 2016-03-28 at 22:10 |
