Default Move 7

Their simple developing move 7.Nf3 leaves us free to carry on with our development without having to respond to any immediate threat.

So we could play either 7...d6 or, since we don't yet have to prevent e5, 7...Bg7. Either of those would be fine by me.

Does anyone think any other moves are worth considering?

Those are the best moves for us, with 7...Bg7 being the more aggressive of the 2. So it boils down to be aggressive or not. I prefer 7...Bg7 leaving out options open.

Would we consider Bb7? We attack the d5 pawn, can bring the Q over to d6 for a triple attack on the pawn,
I don't see how we lose position. Is there a flaw in getting aggressive on the Q-side, which is what our
gambit opening is about?

We would be losing a tempo because their reply would be e4 which would basicly help them since that would force us to play d6. We are not ready to open the center at this time and when we do it should result in an half open files.

I agree with WMH about our not being ready to open the centre, and I would also add that the bishop on b7 would actually hinder our coming aggression on the queenside because it blocks the b file, a likely move for us being ...Rb8 in 5 or 6 moves time as we enter the early middle game. Also, the bishop on c8 is perhaps the piece which we are the least certain, at the moment, of where we ultimately want to place it, a lot depending on the set-up which they adopt. Therefore we should, I think, develop the other pieces first and leave that c8 bishop flexible for the moment.

OK. (slaps face) I needed that. So slow development is the way. I see the light.

Then is it between Bg7 and d6, or what? I'll pick Bg7 and ask what will be their response?

Harmonious development, yes.

I'm also happy with 7...Bg7 which puts all three of us in agreement on the move, right?

Their response is likely to be 8.e4, I think, unless they're intending some unusual system which avoids that move. If they're going to play it, now looks like the right time because they have to develop the f1 bishop and castle. But an occasionally seen alternative is the immediate manoeuvre Nf3-d2-c4 (attacking the black queen) followed by a fianchetto of the f1 bishop.

EDIT: Davar55, I've just realised, on reading your post more carefully, that maybe you're not (yet) actually choosing 7...Bg7 as your vote but only asking what they would reply if we played that. Of course, we have plenty of discussion time left and don't need to make the move yet. However, if you and WMH are both happy to play 7...Bg7 now, then so am I.

Well, are we all agreed on the move 7...Bg7, or are we still in discussion about it? (There's still plenty of time if it's the latter, but otherwise we could play the move, right?)
