VPN usage in China

China is now blocking VPN connections. For me this means a huge disincentive to travel to or communicate with people in China. I can't protect my business interests if corrupt government employees can capture and sell my data. Maybe I should just sever all ties with China and let them carry on in their own little world of control and suppression.

Couldn't you release the forces of pure Evil upon them? Or at least a few dozen minions?

I'm not sure I want to waste even those minuscule amounts of resources on them. It's only ~1.3B people so it is not like it's a significant proportion of the world population or anything.

Long ago during the romanian communist era we used to have nice jokes about chinese, some of them combined with albanians too, like in "why don't chinese speak albanian", etc (you can google that, most probably), and I can't refrain myself of posting this stuff I read few days ago, still fresh in my mind, about few albanians trying to rob few chinese and having their asses kicked, I was laughing for an evening imagining the scene... They got what they looked for...
