Default Move 5

Here we are at a critical point. We can take bxa6, but I am with richs on just pushing the pawn forward for Queen bait: b6

I still want to get something from the back row out there. So the knight move I suggested last time will be my suggestion this time. b1-a3. Plus it has the potential to not get yet another immediate response. I feel like we are playing right into theirs hands when the response has already been decided upon. Why are we being so predicable?

It is best to follow some standard opening -- in this case Benko's Gambit Declined -- because they are well studied. By about the 10th move or so we can get creative.

I advocate not play Benko's Gambit Accepted because it puts their Rooks bearing down on the a and b files, plus the fianchettoed Bishop attacking the same area. With the declined route we can go on and gain center control and begin an attack on the King's side.

Here is a model game about "crushing" Benko's Gambit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFIMzKxWQR4

I agree with Paul, let's decline the gambit: b6

I am happy with b6. There are other options for declining the gambit though. e3 for example.
