Samaroid dioramas:
Reframed scientific learning exhibits by wealthy, misguided influence peddlers. Cf. le faux cinéma vérité.

Should Oil Barons Like David Koch Be Funding Our Museums?
Quote:
In an April 2010 video, climatologist Joseph Romm walks through the Smithsonian’s David H. Koch Hall of Human Origins and ‘learns’ that human evolution was at its best during times of extreme climate shifts. He suggests that the entire exhibit was a front for denying the potential dangers of climate change—and for boosting the perception that global warming is not only harmless, but maybe even beneficial to humanity.

“The exhibit puts the credibility of the entire Museum of Natural History and science staff on the line,” Romm wrote in an accompanying article. “Either the exhibit should be completely reworked or they should give Koch’s money back so as not to taint this exhibit. Or both.”

It’s interesting that the exhibit doesn’t try to explicitly deny global warming so much as reframe it as a natural aspect of evolution that might have positive effects on the environment—a version of history with which almost any climate scientist in the world would vehemently disagree.

Who cares what climate scientists think about evolution? If we are going to do dueling experts, let's at least get relevant experts.

Can't get corresponding relevant experts when much of the the time one party denies the existence of entire fields of study:
Ex-High ranking House Science Committee Congressman Paul Broun: Evolution, Big Bang 'Lies Straight From The Pit Of Hell'

Quote:
Broun won re-election on November 6, 2012, receiving 209,917 votes across the district. Charles Darwin received about 4000 write-in ballots in Athens-Clarke County as protest votes against Broun's views on evolution, while Broun received 16,980 votes in that county.

Semipotentiary: (n., adj.)

As a noun it describes someone with powers that gamut abnegation, slavish mob mentality, egregious gluttony and obsessive self interest. When feeling particularly congenial between bouts of dyspepsia is known to utter an opinion on a magnum opus, treaty or other massive undertaking thusly: "Meh."

Ghoti:
A creature that does NOT need a bicycle but may choose to like one or many.

Last fiddled with by only_human on 2015-04-12 at 06:42 Reason: belatedly added NOT.

Is it, then, a bi-ghoti? Sounds fishy to me.

Until this very moment I truly thought that I had written "does NOT need."
I hate that I make mistakes like that. I had meant to make a mild but also amusing statement that supported and accepted feminism. I'm gonna use my superduper skilz to tamper with the past because written the way it currently stands sounds fishy to me too and I don't want to leave something that might have a derogatory interpretation.

So you CAN change the past! Maybe I can redo one of those other thread meta-wishes...

I have used this power, to the best of my knowledge, three times. Imprimis, to remove a comment in my own message about a difficulty splitting a thread after I split that thread; secundus, to leave a link present but unclickable after it generated a security warning on my system; tertius, to change in a open and obvious way my own message to avert an unintended and unclear but possibly derogatory interpretation.

So I have used this power within frailties to uphold my duties and limited the intervention to merely accomplishing that task.

Jor-El: The people of EarthSoap Box are different from us, it's true, but ultimately I believe that is a good thing. They won't necessarily make the same mistakes we did, but if you guide them, Kal, if you give them hope, that's what this symbol means. The symbol of the House of El means hope. Embodied within that hope is the fundamental belief the potential of every person to be a force for good. That's what you can bring them.

So what you're saying is you want only that this power be used for good.
Never for bad or wasted.
It's potentiality is great and must be directed only positively.

You know I agree.
