I know some tactics, but I'm weak at strategy, especially openings.

Do you strategize at the get go, or wait till your turn to move?

OK. What's your preferred opening to play, if you have a preference?

I would wait for their move before discussing alternative openings. OK?

I see it took them the full seven days to make their move#4, and we've already responded.
Maybe they think they MUST take their full allotment? Or are just psyching us?

We may need the time later, so I won't say the Evil King really is evill.

Certainly there are some on the other team who refuse to be hurried. I'm glad to see our quick response again. That helps speed the game through the opening moves which we have already agreed: 7 days for a move by each side instead of the possible 14. As you say within a few moves we three be needing the discussion time as well.

I see ... ok, if they take 6.9 days, we have to respond in 0.1 days, or am I still missing it ? Please elaborate the rule
and why other than psyching us they would take so long. If we slow down, which I don't recommend, what would we
lose other than interest? Wouldn't they want to maintain interest too even over winning? Maybe not ...

A quick response means they only have 7 days to make a decision as opposed to 7 days plus whatever time we take to make a move.
Move 5 is the first opportunity for White to go out of book.
The normal moves for turn 5 are Bxa6 and 5. b6 a5

I'd say they have several other possibilities too. (5.e3 and 5.Nc3 are certainly playable, also 5.f3 intending e4 with a pawn chain). Secondly, if they play 5.b6 you'll need to convince me at least why we should reply 5...a5 which is a strange looking move to me.

We've agreed earlier, I think, that if they play 5.bxa6 then we reply 5...Bxa6, and I for one would be happy for you to play that at once as you did at move 4. But could we please agree now that if they play anything other than 5.bxa6 then we stop and think?

The response of 5. ... a5 to 5. b6 allows us to play Ba6 as for the other replies that White can choose from I agree some discussion will be required.

Okay, And please could you wait with the move if they play 5.b6 as well? We'll need to discuss that too. Thanks.

I'm happy with 5...Bxa6 immediately if they play 5.bxa6.
