Default Preliminaries

Hi team, your team captain here, wishing you seasonal greetings. We will start talking shop in the new year. I am looking forward to the game and, with your help, a win

Thank you, Paul, for taking the team captain duties.

Our first order of business is to choose a flashy team name, which I think we should do before New Year's or we may have one assigned by a supermod. Blatantly stealing from the tv show, how about The Pawn Stars?

I don't feel much like a star of anything. How about a name with less implication of being great (because then one only looks stupid when one loses and like a showoff when one wins) and use something like: The evil king and his minions.

Sometimes evil wins, sometimes evil ties and sometimes evil loses so it can be appropriate for all outcomes.

I have no great attachment to the name I proposed; I was just trying to get our creative juices going!

David and Paul, any ideas?

retina's proposed team name is quite nice, but it might frighten children

Not particularly fussed about the name. Prefer retina's idea to rich's though.
Shall we have it capitalized: The Evil King and His Minions ?
The "His" looks too much like referring to god IMO. I wouldn't mind just the first three words capitalised.

I want to suggest the first move as the pawn at the far left to move up two spaces. Allowing the castle behind it freedom to get into the game early on.

It would be my plan to move all the pawns away early on and allowing the more powerful pieces freedom to get into the action.

This is a most unconvential opening, but let's explore it! I will study 1.a4 over Christmas.
