GIMPS now has it's own ebuild on Gentoo.

I have emerged it and had a look at it, but I don't like it very much. I prefer to just unpack the tar.gz in a subdir of ~/ and run it from there as an ordinary user with the command

[pre]./mprime -d >> mprime.log &[/pre]

In another window, I can run a "tail -f mprime.log". It's actually a lot less hassle.

And particularly, I don't like these two lines of /etc/conf.d/gimps:
[pre]
# this is the directory where setiathome's run-time
# data files will be stored
[/pre]

regards, Leif.
