Maybe we have another quick only-move situation this time. Am I right in saying that the only reasonable way of dealing with their obvious threat of 57.Kg2 and 58.h3 mate is to play 56...Kh3?

Sounds like we agree and can play the move 56...Kh3 then, okay?

This is fine by me.
I think they will respond with Kg1 and we can continue with Be1  |

Re: above. Just to make sure that we have an understanding, ...
It was to warn about the move Be1 ...or, oh, well any other move that doesn't interfere with 58.Rh5+. It seemed as if it was almost a cooperative play -- to get into this chess problem-type situation. I wanted to leave everyone room to actually see it for yourself (this is what the game is all about!), -- and now you all have:
Ah, of course: 57...Bb4 58.Rh5+ is the same. David's neat mate-in-2 works whether we play ...h5 or not.
I wouldn't have said anything if the game was not over (which it was after the previous move). Your only hope is that the opponents won't see the mate in 2, and I don't know if this can happen. I think they saw it even a few moves before. We'll see in a few hours, or maybe minutes... |

There's a difference between a co-operative game and a normal one where the players show good sportspersonship. It is good etiquette if, when faced with a hopeless position, to allow your opponent to play a pretty finish if it's available.
