Oh yeah. I did not see that, but the discovered check by White will be lethal to us.

54...Ke4 Kf2 doesn't looks great to me.
Assuming you meant Rf5+ 53.Rf7 Ne6 54.Rf5+ Kg4 55.Kf2 55...Ng7 56.Rb5 Kh3 57.Kg1 Bd4+ 58.Kh1 Kg4 59.Kg2 and mate is assured 55...Bd4 56.Kg2 mate is assured 55...Nd4 56.h3+ Kxh3 57.Rh5+ mate is assured I can also find mate for Nf4 but not yet for Be1+. Of course neither are good. I find it weird how I get into sessions of being able to think loads about a position fairly well. I am having to record where I am upto today but doing well. Keep finding escapes for me to refute.
|

While they can force mate after 54...Kg4 as you analyse, David, I think we still have to play it. As Paul says, the discovered check after 54...Kg6 is lethal - they can simply take off our bishop with it. If we had to play 54...Kg6 and give up a piece, it would be more sensible to just resign. Ergo, 54...Kg4 is the only move in my opinion. They then have to demonstrate that they can see how to finish us off.

So based on participation so far we have:
Paul: 54...Kg4 (but possibly changed opinion?) David: 54...Kg6 (suggested, not clearly chosen) Brian: 54...Kg4 Rich: 54...Kg4 Should that list of votes be modified or clarified? |
