Just arrived from Cambridge, UK. Needed to go there with my wife so she could apply to the national insurance number. Nice city, lots of people riding their bicycles. I must return for a weekend, to meet also Paul Leyland..lol

I have 4 days leave to use until end of March and I would like to visit Cambridge. I can't decide which hotel to stay nor what to visit. Check-in on the 25th of February and check-out on the 1st of March. Room for 2 adults. Can cover up to 70 GBP/day including continental breakfast.
Tom and Paul, can you guys help me?

Thank you in advance,

Carlos

I would go for http://www.travelodge.co.uk/hotels/5...ket-Road-hotel

It's a brand-new hotel - it's on my commute so I watched it being built over the last couple of years. It's about a mile's walk along a slightly tedious road to the town centre. When I put in your dates it gives a price of Β£60 a night. They want to charge Β£6.65 per person per day for breakfast, so walking to the town centre and going to Starbucks (or one of the better options) is probably a better choice.

Seconded.

Though my offer of overnight accommodation still holds.

Thank you Tom. I will take a look on that link although I stayed last December in travelodge in Manchester and they didn't have continental breakfast. Tomorrow I will call them. Thank you.

Paul, thank you for the offer but I can't accept it, I would feel bad and my wife wouldn't feel comfortable too. I appreciate your generosity , you are very kind.

About the weather, is it snow season?

Carlos

Ps( if I get book we can all lunch together, my treat)

Sorry fivemack for calling you.
I am going to make an energy audit to Wellcome Trust Genome Campus in Hinxton Cambridgeshire and I can't seem to find cheap hotels. I'll start on the 17th until 19th or 20th, not sure yet.
Anyway, if I stay there for those days we can meet and have a beer or two, my treat. Paul are you interested?

Carlos

Hinxton is in quite a rich, and a distinctly rural, part of the county, so I'm not sure how much luck you'll have with cheap hotels; the Holiday Inn in Duxford might be the best way to do it, and that's Β£120 a night. It's not a practical commute by public transport from Cambridge: it's a mile or so to walk from Great Chesterford railway station, and there are trains from Cambridge station to there every 30 minutes or so, but you're not going to find a cheap hotel anywhere near Cambridge station. There is a bus run by the Sanger Centre, but it doesn't go from anywhere near a cheap hotel.

I heard that Red Lion pub right there in Hinxton has a few rooms upstairs.

Also, if you can get there, there is a BnB at the Lordship Farms (just a few steps away); used to be a hidden treasure, but now everyone who goes to Genome conferences knows about it, sadly. It is frequently fully booked. The owner a.f.a.i.r. only takes reservations simply by phone. Try google for Lordship Farms Hinxton. Found this old link (with the phone)

Correct.

Hinxton is just down the road from me (well, 20km or so) and I know quite a few people in the bioinformatics business. I'll ask them for advice. Rob Hooft is one such; not only does he have a significant ECM engine at his place of work, I met him for a few beers at the Red Lion a couple of years back.

Carlos: this event sounds like a business operation so your employer should be paying your travel and accommodation cost. So, within reason, you should be able to pay standard market rates. I suggest that you present a short list of possibilities and their prices to your manager and then go with what is agreed.

When you know the dates for sure let me and Tom know them and I, at least, will drive/ride to the Red Lion. If Tom's with me that might be an excuse to declare the M991 relation collection completed and to provide him with a few dozen gigabytes of data on the same occasion.

The issue is that it is cheaper to come and back all days by car. On my last day I will be traveling alone by taxi (still afraid of driving on the wrong side of the road...lol) so we can schedule for that day a drink. Until Friday I will let you both know.

You mean driving on the right side of the road? Most Europeans and all North Americans drive on the right side of the road. The British and Irish (and the Thais, the Japanese, the Indians, the Australians, the ...) all drive on the correct side of the road.

Personally I've no problems driving on either the right side or the correct side as long as the steering wheel is on the appropriate side of the vehicle.
