Odd Gap in first time LL assignments?

Hello,

I have a quick question about LL assignments. My desktop has recently been receiving higher and higher exponents as it completes assignments (as expected). Each exponent in only a little larger than the previous (now up to about the 64.7M range). They all immediately begin with an LL test. However, I have recently added two laptops to work as well (old models) but both were assigned exponents in the 70 or 70.5 M range. One laptop I assigned zero MB to for P-1 because it only has 1 GB of 667 MHz DDR2 RAM. The other laptop started with P-1. Yet even more recently, my desktop was assigned a smaller number (64.8M).

Is there a huge gap of available assignments in the 65M to 70M rang and now exponents are being handed out in the 70M range for P-1 and LL? I thought a lot of the exponents in the lower end of that range had already had P-1 completed?

Another random question- Does LL test or P-1 Stage 2 subject the laptop to more heat?

The assignment rules were changed a few months ago. A computer will only be assigned low exponents in its category if it is fast enough and has proved reliable. For more details go to http://www.mersenne.org/thresholds/.

They are definitely not fast like my desktop! 172 ms for a 3590k FFT? Yikes.

You should be sure and sign up for category 1 exponents. These are the lowest exponents and are only given out to trusted users.

when you are logged in and you can sign up for cat 1.

Also, you may see the occasional higher number in the 70's based on the trial factoring depth. The trial factoring effort at gpu72 isn't linear, and so many exponents will be trial factored to 74 bits before lower exponents. PrimeNet will prefer to release these higher exponents with more trial factoring first from what I understand.
