Carefully keep the save files : they represent a few weeks of CPU work. You could have the exponent assigned to you for doublechecking manually. Send a mail to the person managing the manual assigments : George Woltman.

Yes the exponents are only removed when they are not the first line of the worktodo. So for the moment you cannot keep the exponent in your worktodo and work on another exponent if you are contacting the primenet server regularly.
What I would recommend is that on 2/15 after the server synch is done, put this exponent back on the top line and comm with the server. This exponent should then be reassigned to you and you can let it finish and report in the usual fashion. |

I used my Option 2. I put the exponent back at the top of my worktodo.ini a day before the 2/15 server synch. When I reported in, I got the error 11 message, but the exponent stayed in my worktodo. When I reported *after* the synch, the exponent got assigned to me, and when it finished, I got the credit. No request to George for a manual assignment was needed.

I am experiencing a similar problem: I check in with / update PrimeNet manually every two to three months. My most recent communtication, on 05 March 2007, resulted in:
Quote:
This exponent was assigned to me not later than 12 October 2006 and probably quite some time before that. This error is also preventing reporting of another completed exponent which has a "date updated" of 14 December 2006 and will be reassigned if I don't manage to check in soon. Despite having the 'days work queue' set to 90, no further exponents are being assigned, my current queue consisting of only two exponents which will be completed in mid-April. I am unable to find a solution to this. Any advice/assistance would be gratefully received. ![]() MS63 |

MS 63, you could delete the prime.spl file, then communicate with the server. But you should email the refused results to George Woltman by sending him the relevant lines of the result.txt file. It should clear your problemss unless the new exponent is already expired. According to primenet rules you should check in at least once every 2 month. You could use the "vacation or holliday" to extend that time if it is really difficult for you to check in more often than once every two months.

It's done it again!!!!!

Here is an extract from prime.log showing the original assignment: Quote:

I have copies of my Primenet Report page showing the exponent WAS assigned to me and was updated on 20 March 2007: Quote:
Once again this has prevented further completed assignments from being reported to Primenet. I really would like to know what is going on such that exponents are assigned, worked on, checked in, then, suddenly, removed for no apparent reason. Not only does this really piss me off annoy me but it makes extra work for George. ![]() MS63 |

And again!!!!

I enjoy participating in GIMPS, particularly when a first LL test completes and I am the only person ever to know with some certainty the status of the Mersenne number being tested. Am I wasting my time with GIMPS? If assignments are removed willy-nilly then maybe I am. I hate to moan about the project, given that it is free to play, is administered for free, and requires no(?) effort or understanding on my part, but of late the random removal of assignments has been annoying me quite a lot. End of rant. For now. ![]() ![]() MS63 |

I checked the exponents assigned to you in the status.txt file Hourly World Test Status, Assignments Report and I noticed something strange. The computer AB has updated the status of all exponents except one : 3215983. The same applies for other computers, see below.

This exponent, and others, has been re-assigned to "Core1", which is unable to check in (or report three completed LL tests) because of the "ERROR 3..." when attempting to communicate with Primenet. :) MS63 |

And again and again!
17362109 assigned 05 March 2007, last checked in (successfully) 15 July 2007, 43.42% completed, now (16 August 2007) "ERROR 3" exponent not assigned. This REALLY pisses me off!!!! It has to stop. I'm sure my contribution to GIMPS is insignificant and would not be missed, but if this happens just one more time I'll take my spare (and dedicated) processor time elsewhere. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() MS63 |
