I won that exibition from an german science magazine. I´m very excited about that visit, I just can´t wait for that trip.
So far I know we will visit the HERA Tunnel, which is build under Hamburg.
I also hope to see a bit from XFEL, but dont think we will see it.
Nice!

I visited the LHC when it was under construction with my science class (in 2008/ 2009).

Very interesting trip!

Down side is that, ATM, the air is full of dust from the Sahara. This happens 2-4 days per year on average. Just our luck that we pick the wrong days to visit. Couldn't even see the moon two nights ago !
Sounds lovely - will this be a year-round retirement home, or a winter refugium?

Would love to see pics (including inside & out of the domes) if you feel like posting such!

c) Neither of the above.

The plan is to spend ~50% of the time in each country but not exclusively in a summer/winter divide. Unless you regard the UK as having a 12-month winter. To be fair, the British climate has been characterized as 9 months of winter and 3 months of bad weather.

The pictures we took are still in La Palma, arising from a stunning multi-party display of incompetence. Some pictures, and much more information, can be found at http://astropalma.com/

Let's hope that, twelve months from today, you can still get permission to reside there!

I think it exceedingly unlikely that the Spanish government will voluntarily renounce a very large contribution to their economy and risk tit-for-tat retaliation from the UK.

Remember: Brits have been buying property in Spain long before either country joined the EEC and EU respectively. The mutually beneficial relationship goes way back into the Franco era. Presumably you recognize the character Manuel from Fawlty Towers?

Or Gal from Sexy Beast?

(Quite a breakthrough role for Ray Winstone... though he is totally eclipsed in this film by Sir Ben K. This is a must see for those who don't know his whole range - from Gandhi to Dr. Roberto Miranda and Don Logan)

Looks volcanic! Telescopes and volcanoes ... they just seem to go together.

What is the elevation of said observatory?

Wow- very nice; looking forward to seeing your pictures. An orchard and observatory domes. Can't get much better than that.

Yes, and my comment was indeed a slight dig at your pro-Brexit stance, but with a serious undertone.
Once the UK has left the EU, there may be a distinct rise in unpleasant bureaucracy for British people wanting to live in Europe, and possibly complex taxation issues too.
Even under English law, you will need to determine whether you are still "ordinarily resident" in the UK while resident in Spain.
And the practical situation on those islands may be somewhat different from what they are told to do by Madrid as well.
