Default The art of the field repair

Had a 150mm-long handlebar-stem bolt shear off on me a couple days ago, right at the junction where the 100mm-long unthreaded segment transitions into the 50mm-long threaded portion. None of the local boke shops had a replacement of the proper size - fonally found/ordered one from an Amazon-reseller, but ETA is late this coming week. So while waiting for the replacement bolt to arrive, managed to machine a patch for the broken one today - dug through my box of spare/junk bolts/nuts/screws/etc, found a little brass slug with a hole having the same-sized threads. used the Dremel to grind off the outside to make a thin enough tube to fit inside the handlebar stem where it needs to go, then used my trusty tap & die set to cut 10mm worth - all I could manage, as it's very hard steel, but all I need - of the same-sized threads on the broken bolt end where it buts against the threaded portion, the junction where the break is. Screwed the ends of the 2 broken-apart pieces into opposite sides of the brass patch piece, voila! Used my little xmas-gift-2-self $60 Epson flatbed scanner to take a pic, below.

Default Dual monitors

My 9-year-old Dell 27" monitor gave out last week. It started displaying a series of narrowly spaced bright vertical lines overlaying the image. It gave me good service through two PCs so I decided just to get rid of it.

Its resolution was 1920 X 1200 which is evidently not in use anymore since everything now is 1900 X 1080. That affected only the Access program I wrote for my CD collection, which I was not smart enough to programatically resize the screens. I had to manually resize a few.

I had wanted dual monitors for some time, so since HP offered a 27" monitor for only $200 I got two of them (27es). I am quite happy with this new setup. (The old Dell cost $780 nine years ago).

My 27" HP monitor has a dual HDMI input as well... It was useful when I have a new machine to assemble or update.

Just finished an excellent beef Wellington washed down with a nicely robust red wine.

I had been thinking about eating Greek cuisine today. Somehow a St Valentine's Day Moussaka seemed appropriate.

A few days ago we rode 1,500 miles in 28 hours. We were curious to see if we had the endurance to do so. Fortunately, it wasn't very difficult at all.

Last Saturday at the Hash I made the mistake of making a sexual joke to the Religious Advisor (RA). This resulted in me getting the No Poofters Down Down award.

To continue the humour, I then put my tee shirt back on for the rest of the down downs, much to the amusement of many.

Yes, Hashers are weird people...

P.S. I didn't realize how uncomfortable bras are! I honestly don't know how women deal with them and breasts!!!

We purchased our current bike on September 28th. We were gifted heated clothing for Xmas, so we have ridden a lot more this winter than previously.

In my past, experience says that I would have made more than 35 round trips between Houston and Edinburg, TX for a long-distance romance. Even in those circumstances, I would not consider 7 trips per month. Better 2 long visits.

This is just chatter. The miles were things to put behind me in eager pursuit of, or sad retreat from, joyful play.
