Happy Me Thread

After ~3 years I finally discovered a round tuit lying around and made another batch of harissa. Roughly 500g of it is now in the freezer. The chillies (circa 200g) are entirely home-grown but the other ingredients were bought in.

Recipe on request (there's a thread for that). The product is wonderful, IMAO, but the manufacturing process requires adequate hazchem procedures or you will suffer severe discomfort.

In the meantime the afternoon didn’t start well when driving behind two lorries a stone hit the car company screen so now I have a dot there. After dinner I requested to split the bill so I could pay half by my business premier inn card and half with my personal card to pay my wife’s dinner, my card stalled the machine so I left my room number in case they wanted to sort out things. When I got to the room heating was faulty, the system was always turning the heat off even by changing the set points, manager came into the room to change auto settings to manual but it didn’t work. I’ve requested to move to another room and now everything seems to be working. Tomorrow will be having dinner with Paul and my wife so I will ask them if payment was sorted since I’ve now on a different room number..lol

I just met Andy Weir!

A few months ago, I joined a book club for people in their 20s and 30s. Our club just met at an event featuring Pierce Brown and Andy Weir. It was really cool to meet the author of one of my favorite books!

The downside is that I didn't get my copy of The Martian autographed because Andy had to leave early. I understand that Andy doesn't owe us anything and isn't obligated to sign our books, although I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed. On the bright side, at least I got to shake hands with him. Perhaps next time!

I'm finally free of the bakery. All it took was calling my superior a schizophrenic, and when the email came from the higher ups about a meeting letting them know I was possibly sexually assaulted on their premises by that superior.

I got my tree back! The one mentioned here.

Turned out that the thieves carried it circa 100m down the road and then dropped it, possibly because it was too heavy. It was left outside the house of a couple who came round today to see whether we had lost one. The tree is fine but the pot is a write-off.

I'm so happy for you Paul! I tended a pine bonsai for 15 years before a windstorm blew it off my balcony. It probably would have survived that insult, but the local lagomorphs found it before I did and gnawed it down to the wire supports. Felt like losing a pet.

Excellent- Congratulations! It was really discouraging to think of 10 years of tending to it, and then it was simply gone.

Should be moving to Milton Keynes soon so I expect Paul Leyland and Jean, Tom, David ( and respective partners) to come to our new house in due course to have a great barbecue, Portuguese meal but of course we will have some fish and chips just for the case you don’t like healthy food.
