A good idea. Have you confirmed they have 4 memory slots?

Benchmark these combinations to see what gives you the best performance: 4-8-4-0 4-0-4-0 4-4-0-0 4-4-8-0 with the first slot being the one closest to the CPU. Last fiddled with by Mark Rose on 2017-11-15 at 04:11 |

Are you suggesting the channel pairs may not be intuitive? Do you mean to have 16GB in all 4 scenarios or is there a reason 2 of them only have 8? Thanks |

This new i5-3570 has very similar benchmarks to my i5-3570K before I OC'd it from about 3600 to 4200.
I still need to add some RAM to this first one. Then I want to move the GPU from an older CPU to the second new one. Along with more RAM as well. BTW: After 2 years of having it, this is the first time I opened the case to this GPU purchased from another GIMPS Member. For 2 years I was under the belief it was a GTX-780. BUT....the GPU is clearly labeled GTX-980. That would explain the 520-560 GhzDays / Day output from it. |

A pleasant surprise on the GPU!
EDIT: Is the 980 running stock? An OC'd 1060 (2012 MHz ATM) stabilizes at 640-644 MHz. If the 980 is relatively "stock" you could probably get considerably more from it. Last fiddled with by kladner on 2017-11-16 at 02:49 |

You were talking about getting a matched 4 GB module and using that along with your 8 GB module. Two of my suggestions are for just the 4 GB sticks, and the other two are for adding in an 8 GB stick. It's possible adding the 8 GB stick may lower performance (due to there possibly being fewer memory ranks on the stick), so that's why I also suggest benchmarking with and without it :) |

I did a benchmark and compared the times of the first new i5-3570 with 4x2GB of stock RAM to this new one with 2x4GB + 1x8GB that I added. The Benchmark times show that the stock PC is about 1% faster. I can live with that. I think it indicates the Dual Channel is working in the second new PC. PS ... Thanks for everyone's help. PPS. Anyone have a spare Solar Power generator laying around :) Last fiddled with by petrw1 on 2017-11-17 at 02:55 Reason: PS |

Next Thursday I’ll be visiting Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in UK. Should be exciting, hoping for a bus tour and meetings to plan further work there as an energy consultant.
