After years of being jerked around by my cable provider, I've succeeded in getting through a phone call with them without locking in another ridiculous term contract when all I've wanted is basic internet; I've returned their equipment, bought my own cable modem so no more equipment fees either. So if they just stop manipulating my bill, I've finally got affordable internet service.

Default CS50 Puzzle day - Harvard, Cambridge

It seems that my team was one of the four teams (out of 2317 all over the world) that won the CS50x Puzzle Day 2016, composed by 12 logical puzzles of increasing difficulty.

I am sharing this with you, as this forum helped me grow the math and logical attitude that made me win

Thanks guys!

So, I needed to run some software which is incompatible with my current (somewhat middle-aged) distribution. I don't have the time to upgrade my workstation currently, so I fired up VirtualBox and installed the latest version of the distribution and the needed software. All in about two hours.

In full-screen mode on one of my monitors, I can barely tell I'm in a different (virtual) instance. In fact, I had to change the colour scheme to remind me!

Boy, is modern computing ever incredible! And fun!!!

Four point-of-lay hens took up residence here 10 days ago. Just found the first egg. Very small and has a funny surface texture but undoubtedly an egg.

No idea which of Brenda, Glenda, Silvie or Sally laid it.

Pullets do lay small, starting out, as I am sure you know. I trust you are giving them calcium in some form. Be sure to recycle your egg shells (through the hens, that is.)
Congratz!

Thanks.

The first dozen or so are always erratic. The chucks are fed primarily on layers' pellets, which contains calcium, and have access to oyster shell grit too. We used to grind up eggshells for the previous batch but then read that it doesn't work that well for hens and gave up. Don't know what the current thinking might be.

Otherwise the shells are recycled through a compost heap, either ours or the one run by the council recycling centre.

In my experience, no grinding of shells is necessary. When I was around chickens, long ago, they would converge in a mob and struggle to grab shells. They had no problem devouring them. I don't know how well they digest.

A personal milestone- I commute to work on my bike, and my odometer hit 20,000 miles the other day. Hope to hit my next milestone, which would be equal to once around the planet, sometime late next year.
