Ok, here an easy one for starters:
1, 3, 4, 6 make 24 restrictions: you MUST use every number EXACT once. you may only use +(addition) - (substraction) * (multiplication) /(division) without restrictions on quantity (so no powers or other mathematical functions). numbers may not be combined e.g 1 and 3 cannot make 13 or 31. example: (4*6)/(3-1)=12 Your goal is to make 24. -michael |

Well the question is posed for base 10...but since the numbers are smaller than 7, you may in addition try base 7 and up if you wish... hehe

I've had pm's me with a hexadecimal solution. Congrats on finding those, though that wasn't too tough.
I have a solution in base 10, and that was how i initially intended my question -michael |

Then it must be the something rational which gives the whole number (24) in the latter

Are we correct in assuming that the digit "0" is excluded from use and that the decimal point "," (or "." for the yanks) is also not used?

I assume you ask weither fractions are allowed.
Nothing forbids you to do 1*3*6=18 which is exactly the same as doing 6/(1/3)=18 only there you have 1/3=0.333333333333... as a subresult. Use of devision is allowed so consequently also use of fractions. -michael |

What I am asking is:
Is 10 not equal to using 1? I know spliting hairs. Also, is .1 or .6 allowed instead of 1 or 6? I am just looking for a way around the rules.
