One scenario is:

9...Qa5
10. c3 b4
11. c3xb4 Nxb4 (theatening check with a pin)
Indeed. 11.c3xb4 is one way they can go horribly wrong.

David, just one point: I'm not certain that Rich has actually stated that his favoured move is 9...Qa5. Possibly the way I phrased my last posting has misled you. He says he'll post his opinion nearer the deadline.

Brian, thanks for emphasizing the b4 aspect of your line which I am now looking at further.

I agree with the Qa5 move also. I just wanted to look at alternatives....

Did any of you guys get a PM from Raman asking to play one-on-one games?

I played another alternate for Qa5:

9. ... Qa5
10. c3 b4
11. Ne2 Ba6
12. cxb4 cxb4
13. O-O (which makes Ne5 not favorable since their bishop takes our a7 pawn)

so then I think we clear space for castling with 13. ... Nge7

Yep. Asking for my Email address as well.
Damn... I completely forgot to give that to him in my reply. What a shame.

My sentiments exactly!

I think 12...Nxb4 might be better. We threaten a knight check as Paul mentioned earlier in a similar position, and if 13.O-O Bxd3
EDIT1: Not sure about that now: 14.axb4 Qxa1 15.Qxd3 and if 15...Rxb4 16.Qxd6 is messy. Woops. Need to look further.
EDIT2: I think simply (9...Qa5 10.c3 b4 11.Ne2 Ba6 12.cxb4 Nxb4 13.O-O) 13...Nc6 is best now. We still have queenside pressure.

Last fiddled with by Brian-E on 2013-09-25 at 21:43 Reason: discovered 14.axb4

The deadline is tomorrow and 3/4 of us had replied so I was preparing for the possibility that he wouldn't be able to reply. If he did then no problem. I like to post the probable move the evening before posting in the morning if possible as it gives us some time to focus on that move rather than looking around.

As from now I'm away for the next 10 hours without internet access which takes us past the deadline.

David said he would post the move, but just in case he cannot get here for any reason, Paul and Rich, if you happen to be around in a few hours time and notice that the move has not been played by then, you could maybe make our move in the public thread and PM Serge (Batalov)?
