considering gimps outside math can mean people who are handicapped by definition what else are you expecting? not that he is, in fact I'd like you to do some self reflection ( doubt I'll see that happen though).

My sincerest apologies to everyone.
I was having a very bad day yesterday, and I inappropriately redirected that anger here. I'm sorry for having being so very stupid. |

Don't be sorry - I long ago realized you can't help it.
My advice is to listen to, then heed, the wisdom of those who are well-qualified to know what they are talking about. When GPUs took TF by storm (LL assignments 53M), I and others judged that we could TF to 72 from 54M onwards, in a quiet manner transparent to the most important work-type, first time LLs. There would be some firepower to spare for other TF work. AVX has increased the first time LL completions to 300/day, but we can now keep clear ahead of the LL assignments TFing to 73 bits. I know some of you clamour for hard numbers to back up my assertions, so here goes: "Expected new primes" dropped by 0.001 in under 36 hours, as usual ATM. "Total 2LL" increased by 176. 12 got factored so 188 DCs were completed. "Total 1LL" increased by 222. 8 got factored so 230 + 188 = 418 1st time LLs were completed. To check: "Status Unknown" decreased by 542 of which 124 were factored, leaving 418 first time LL completions. Referring to your "daily change in TF bit level" in the range 60M-70M, it seems that we can't TF the necessary 1000 per 3days to 74 bits yet. I hope this wasn't above your head ![]() David Last fiddled with by davieddy on 2013-04-07 at 20:08 |

I'm in two minds. (What else is new? There's often someone in my head but it's not me). You have a good point but David's response had just the right degree of non-malicious cattiness. IMAO, anyway.

I half see the point: 1400 to 73 and 900 to 74 in a week satifies the 1000 per three days required to sustain a 10% increase in the expo per year criterion. But upping those 1400 to 74 is a big ask. As for the usefulness of 2000 candidates to 71 between 63M and 70M... DON'T GET ME STARTED D Last fiddled with by davieddy on 2013-04-09 at 00:20 |
