I've played through many scenarios, and the Bxg6 lines never seem to work out unless (a) they can't take back, or (b) we get an immediate perpetual check. Better is to keep our bishop on the board.
On the suggested line, I agree that the blockade may be better. Just to work out another possibility, can we improve this line?: 25. Kg2 exf4 26. Nd4 Bxd4 27. cxd4 Rxd4 28. Bxg6 f3+ 29. Kf2 Bg4 30. Bxh7+ Kh8 31. Qc3 pinning the rook, but not for long, and I think they can pull out a win. |

The only improvement I see is the meek but safer 26.Ng1 forcing the blockading position with knight on f3 after all. |

I think black has other options like R(gh)4 at move 29 of that sequence.

So, since 25.Kg2 exf4 26.Nd4 would seem to lead to disaster, should we aim at 25.Kg2 exf4 26.Ng1 (aiming to play Nf3) instead?
Is anyone currently preferring a move other than 25.Kg2? |

I'm also of the opinion that Kg2 is the right move, as it forces their hand (or we can then deal with their pawn), and gives us the option to blockade on f3, and activates our king.

I also advocate 25.Kg2.
Rich, are you there? It would be nice to read what you think. |

Sorry for my silence, guys. It's been a hellish week at work, and I had to file my income tax return today! Here's a line I played against myself:
25. Kg2 exf4 26. Ng1 Rfe8 27. Nf3 Rd6 28. a3 We seem to be holding our own. I like 25. Kg2 rather than moving our bishop. |

And by the way, I noticed Raman listed as a Currently Active User in the Toxic Geckos folder earlier today. I don't think he has access to our posts, but he's pulling the same stuff that he was doing earlier.

Good to hear from you, Rich. I hope your work pressures ease up soon.

I guess we look at David now to judge if we're ready to play 25.Kg2 and to go ahead and play it if so. The guy does seem to have a very peculiar attitude. I can't make him out. |

Thanks, Brian.
Yes, Raman has been posting some really strange stuff in the Vote Chess thread, and it appears he's back in spying mode on us, for all the good it will do him! |
