When I tried to update the FreeBSD kernel all hell broke loose. I need to wipe it clean and start from scratch. Frankly, there hasn't been any demand for a 32-bit FreeBSD version so I haven't gone to the trouble.

The good news is that unless you have a newer Intel CPU that supports AVX instructions, version 26 is just as fast as version 27.

BTW, if your CPU supports 64-bit then 64-bit prime95 is 10-15% faster than 32-bit prime95.

Thank you for the answer, well it is old Dell laptop: Genuine Intel T2500 @ 2.00GHz FreeBSD,v26.6,build 3

I do not think it can run 64 bit OS, I am just using PC-BSD because it was pretty easy to run it from USB with read/Write mode using the full flash capacity, I am running with No HDD :)

It is a core duo(notice no 2) so it is 32- bit. V26 should be fine.

Thank you guys for the information,
I am running 2 laptops and the BSD one is much slower almost 10% of the other laptop running Ubuntu.

The laptops are:
Genuine Intel T2500 @ 2.00GHz FreeBSD,v26.6,build 3 - 1 G Memory 32 bit BSD
Intel Core2 Duo T7250 @ 2.00GHz Linux,v27.9,build 1 - 2 G memory 32 bit Linux

The linux laptop is almost 10 times fatser than the BSD when doing TF, although I have assigned the same memory 512 Mb for each and both are just dedicated for this job.

Do you believe it is only the HW difference which is causing the slowness or different mprime version is playing a role as well?

Best Regards

The t2500 is a Core Duo while the t7250 is a Core2Duo. According to most benchmark sites, there should only be about a 10% difference (ie: 90 vs 100) not a 1000% difference. It doesn't sounds like a hardware problem, so it is likely the OS.

edit: I just looked at the GIMPS site benchmarks, and it shows a t7200 being about 3x the speed of the t2500 at LL and about 2x as fast at TF. The 7250 should be comparable to the 7200.
