Well... I'm not exactly sure what should go in a poll, so I guess we'll just have to brainstorm.
I'm thinking we should be attacking e4, in order to pressure their white bishop, so we should either do f5 or d5. I'm open to any other idea as well  |

That is very interesting (and unexpected) move on their side. We have many choices here, one is to be active in the center, another is to make a waiting move to see what they want with that pawn, like playing Rc8, Re8, Qc7, Qc8, Qd7, the last two seems better because they are hitting the f5 square too, and their intention with this move may be the f5 square. I am adept to the "active" version, studying now 13...d5/e5/f5, looking for the most incisive one , between the preparations for new year's eve. Also, 13...f6 seems good compromise, is both an active move and a "waiting" move, strengthening the center.
I think I won't be back this year (still less then 8 hours here, I still have to help SWMBO with cooking, right now I was washing a blanket, by hand because it is too big to fit in the washing machine, so I am in the break of waiting to drain the water from it, otherwise is too heavy and I can't lift it on the drying rope  or the rope may break). So, happy new year to everybody. BRB next year... |

The point with f5 against d5 is that they can't really take it. If they take it, their king is not so much protected anymore, we get the column with the rook and the diagonals with the queen and white-square bishop, toward their king. Moreover, we can plant a "bad knight" into their ribs, same discussion as for the previous move. I think, if they take it, is worse for them than if they don't take it. If they are clever, they may move something else and let us take e4 first (this depends on their move).

couldn't they: 13) ... f5 14) exf5 Bxf3 15) Rxf3 ... and go up by 1 point in the ranking of pieces by value. edit: though I guess I see a way for there to be a comeback afterwards. Last fiddled with by science_man_88 on 2013-01-03 at 19:05 |

Personally though, I don't see exf5 as too big a possibility. g5 is more interesting. |

yeah we capture f5 they capture back we are forced to capture again to stay even piece wise. edit: sorry dubslow I know you are reading this but, I do see one positive out of all that capturing, namely that we can move our knight to f5 threatening the remaining bishop Last fiddled with by science_man_88 on 2013-01-03 at 21:05 |
