Default Move 13

There seem to be plenty of reasonable looking candidate moves this time.

13.c3 continues the plan already formulated
13.Qd2 develops the queen to the square suggested several moves ago
13.Qe1 is a different development, aiming to transfer the queen directly to the kingside
13.g4 starts the kingside pawns rolling (preliminary h3 seems unnecessary to me now and we may prefer h2-h4 later instead) and also envisages moving the knight to g3

Are there other good-looking moves in addition to those ones?

I like g4. Let's start our attack.

At the moment (with opinion still highly susceptible to being swayed once we hear from henryzz and richs as well) I, too, like 13.g4, getting it in before they spoil such plans of ours by playing ...f5.

If 13.g4 d5 we play 14.e5 Rb8 (intending ...d4) 15.c3 Nc6 16.d4 and with the centre locked we have free rein for our kingside attack.

So far this move we have been thinking about what we want to do.
I suggest we cast a though on his best moves.
If I were them I would quite like both d5 and f5.
Suppose 13. g4 f5, we have 3 options.

Do something else like c3. This lets him take the pawn on g4. We can take back with the bishop but we no longer have a pawn above the king which I don't like.
Take the pawn with g4. This gives a similar weakness above the king and allows him to take back with his e pawn making a centre weakening pawn(and quite possibly bishop) exchange likely. This doesn't look good to me either.
Take with our e pawn. This means our bishop is attacking his unprotected bishop. I think his best move is the swap bishops as protecting it gives us the tempo. He can then take with his e pawn. We could do g5 to stop leaving our king open. Do we like the position after
13. g4 f5 14. exf5 Bxf3 15. Rxf3 exf5 ?
Move g5. This allows him to take e4. Do we then take back with the bishop or pawn? If we take with the pawn the board is opened up a bit. If we take with the bishop we allow him to exchange bishops. It boils down to do we want the bishops on the board?
Have I missed anything?
Seems to me that g4 either leads to pawn weakness on the kingside or a stalemate of pawns on the kingside.
I think it is worth thinking about attacking with pawns on the queenside. I like the look of c4.

13.g4 f5 14.g5 fxe4 15.dxe4 looks like a promising attacking position for us. We post the knight on g3, manoeuvre the queen to g2, back it up with rooks, then advance h4-h5. One point of playing g4 now is that if we allow Black to play ...f5 before we have done so then they can reply ...fxg4 which, as you point out, is undesirable for us.

I think the move c2-c4 gives us ghastly weaknesses on the dark squares, especially d4, and I cannot see what we achieve by such a move either. What is it on the queenside that you thinking of attacking, David?

At the bottom of the screen, it says that Raman is viewing this thread. How is that possible?

not sure

the password has been changed

maybe he is looking at the stats for the thread?

say someone on the team replies, i think your profile shows the last thread you replied to

then he can use that thread link to try to read it or figure out the number of posts per person or whatever

Indeed, it appears that he does!
(I was skeptical as I heard it, but I came in to see and indeed, right now - see the attached screenshot).

Now that there's some hard evidence that Raman views this forum, maybe someone could warn him that it is unacceptable? And that appropriate sanctions could follow if he is seen to do it again?

How is he either (1) getting in without a password, or (2) getting the password?

(It appears he is viewing this thread, once again, right now!)

Many of us would very much like to know.
