Just signed up for the Cupertino FreeCycle group and posted an Offer of the Celeron laptop. Their user rules has one interesting item:

6. NO OFFERING YOURSELF OR YOUR CHILDREN. Posting oneself or another person from the human species is not allowed. There are many fine Internet dating sites better suited to this purpose.

Celeron notebook successfully placed, single mom got it for her 12-year-old son. I noted to them that finding Win2000-compatible software might be nontrivial, but that there are surely online swap-meet sites dealing in that sort of thing. (Not sure if those are the same ones where one can trade children for cigarettes.)

I have an XP OEM install disk and the whole set of MS Works 2002 software with product key. Would that be of use to them? I would be willing to part with the lot for some help on the postage.

Last fiddled with by ewmayer on 2012-11-20 at 19:29 Reason: Thanks for the kind offer - just emailed her, will let you know. Could she just Paypal you the S&H monies?

Model Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHz
Features Dual core, hyperthreaded, Prefetch,SSE,SSE2,SSE4,AVX
Speed 2.875 GHz (5.982 GHz P4 effective equivalent)

I do not have access to the computer now. But Primenet says:

Software Version Windows64,Prime95,v26.6,build 3
Model Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz
Features 4 core, Prefetch,SSE,SSE2,SSE4
Speed 2.508 GHz (0.264 GHz P4 effective equivalent)
L1/L2 Cache 32 / 3072 KB
GHz-days credited 178.392 GHz-days (in the last 365 days)
Work units completed 2411 (in the last 365 days)
Work units assigned 45
CPU rolling average 66 / 1000 ( 7%) Execution priority 1 (default)
Benchmarks 2 recorded, most recent 2012-03-25 02:27

This month the computer was running maybe 1 hour a day because the temperatures are rising in the southern hemisphere and the processor runs at 80 °C when using all cores.
