The i7-2600K is a little bit faster than indicated above:
4341 5.45 6.83 8.35 9.72 10.95 13.82 17.20 23.86 23.76 2.44 (Windows64,Prime95,v27.3,build 1) Interestingly the Linux timings are much worse: 4412 8.22 10.49 12.84 15.34 16.98 21.71 27.42 32.89 36.46 3.74 (Linux64,Prime95,v27.4,build 1) Clockspeed was 4.4 GHz in both cases. I've found a cheaper configuration that uses a GT 555M. Is that card any good?

I max out my gtx-570 while running two mfaktc instances each producing average of 307M/s.
Overclocking the i7 directly effects the throughput of the GPU. I believe the GPU could produce more output but my i7 hangs if I go over 4.8 ghz. See screenshot for exact OC configuration. |

It's a mobile part (that's what the M is) so it'll get much less than a GT 555, which is already not very good. From the linked table, my GTX 460 gets 100-120 GD/d; the GT 555M gets ~48. A GTX 570 gets ~255. |

I can't really saturate a GtX 570 with 4 instances on a Phenom II x6 1090T @ 3.6 GHz. The higher I overclock the GPU, the lower the Sieve Primes go, but I'm not sure that the added power draw yields enough performance to justify the higher temps. I do wish I had gotten an i7 or i5. |

I am with swl551 and the other people here (i.e. for a i7-2600k; these "k" toys are almost the best price/performance compromise you can get. I am owning two of them and I am quite happy. If you target price/performance per watt, then you can go with ivy, the SB series is more power-hungry). As graphics, you can get a gtx570 around 200 bucks anytime on web (ebay, alibaba, etc) and even from some local shops (physical location), but I would honestly go for a gtx580 (a bit more expensive, prices are going down, but the performance is much better for the same power consumption).

Sorry. I switched that column to GHz-days/day a couple of months ago. The combined number is 353. I have a hard time believing this, as I am lucky to turn in ~320 GHz-days/day including two CPU cores doing P-1, and a GTX 460 doing CUDALucas.
