Default Black's second moove

1. e4 c5 2. Nc3

Sicilian Defense / Closed Variation
See line
2...Nc6 3.g3 g6 4.Bg2 Bg7 5.d3 d6 6.Be3

I vote for 2...Nc6.
for the B23 lines
In my own opinion, 2. Nf3 would have been more appropriate
enough, better for white, branching into the lines
2...d6 (Kopec Variation)
for the future splitting into the following variations
2...d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3
5...a6 (Najdorf Variation)
5...g6 (Dragon Variation, Yugoslav Attack line)
5...e6 6.Bc4 (Sozin Variation)
5...e6 6.Be2 (Scheveningen Variation)
5...Nc6 6.Bg5 (Richter Rauzer Attack)
5...e6 6.f4 (Keres Attack)
5.f3 e5 6.Bb5+ (Prins Variation, Venice Attack)
or otherwise
2...e6 (Paulsen Variation), for example developing into the 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nc6 5.Nb5 (Szen Variation), 4...a6 (Kan Variation) 4...Nc6 (Taimanov Variation)
2...Nc6 (Nc6 Variation) leading into the 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 g6 (Accelerated Variation) 5. c4 Bg7 (Marcozy Bind), 4...Nf6 5.Nc3 e5 (Pelikan Variation)
4...e5 (Lowenthal Variation)
4...Qc7 (Flohr Variation)
2...Nf6 ?
2... a6 ? (O' Kelly Variation)
or otherwise
2...b6, ?

or otherwise
2...Nf6, ? in general, ?

or otherwise the other alternatives would have been
2.c3 (Alapin Variation)
2.f4 (Grand Prix Attack)
2.d4 cxd4 3.c3 (Morra Gambit)

I don't know Sicilian (or anything really) so I'll just go with whatever (Nc6 I guess).

I see the positives of Nc6 (namely likely stopping e5,d4, or b4 from being played, without capture possibilities, though Nxd4 is only a good move due to capture of d4 by their queen ( if they are bad) leading to cxd4) and though I originally didn't see the point I can go with it.

Are you guys familiar with the term analysis paralysis?

You're suffering from it.

Make a decision. Own it. And move on.

Are you familiar with the term control freak?

You're suffering from the disease that causes it.

Find a cure. Use It. And be nice.

Also unless I can't see the overruling:

Thanks.

If you have another suggestion SM88, I can add/edit a poll into the thread.

I'll go with it(Nc6) I can't really figure out much else that would protect c5 by stopping advancements.

I would go for the classical d6.

The 2.Nc3 move raised the "engine alert" flag. Usually the right continuation is 2.Nf3, d6. The Nc3/Nc6 variation became more popular on the online playing sites since Rybka engine's inception, because that engine is (almost) always playing it.

Interesting. If we assume that they are in fact playing by the rules, what does that tell us about their thinking?

Nothing yet :D it is too early to tell anything, this opening may be just the one somebody in their team is usually using. But you know how is it that feeling that "the others" are always cheating :D

p.s. was it supposed that "enemies" (like chalsall ) have access to OUR private forum? That's trickery too! now he will go and tell the others our plans... i know these Canadian guys...
