One summer's day, Hardy was frustrated to see the cricket match he was attending abruptly curtailed when the batsman complained of being unsighted by a flashing light emanating from the stands where he was sitting. His anger turned to joy when an enormous clergyman was asked to remove the huge silver cross from around his neck that was catching the light of the sun. Hardy could not contain himself and spent the lunch break firing off postcards to his friends describing cricket's vanquishing of the clergy.

Default Another Example of What is Wrong with Religion

"Religious Freedom" is NOT the freedom to practice unbridled beliefs.

The right to practice ones religion stops when it infringes on the rights of
others. One's religious beliefs do not give one the right to deny rights
to others simply because one is intolerant of those rights.

A follow-up:

See: http://www.kenanmalik.com/essays/religious_freedom.html

Unfortunately, too many people see "religious freedom" as the right to
deny rights to others when those rights are in disgreement with one's
beliefs. This is not what religious freedom means.

Excellent link! Thanks, Bob. I passed this one on.

EDIT: Oh yeah.....the previous story is rather appalling, especially since young children were involved.

These bigots left because they objected to the government giving
rights to gays and rights to women. They objected that gay couples
should get tax breaks. As typical self-righteous hypocrites, they themselves
accepted a free ride home (from the state department) courtesy of
U.S. taxpayers.

Suppose I were to object to my tax money being used to give a free ride
to these bigots. Should I have the right to deny them the ride because
I don't approve of their bigotry? Certainly not.

Suppose I were to object to my money, period, being used to give free advertising space to judeochristian monotheism.

IGWT? It absolutely should be removed or altered. What could
we replace it with instead?

How about the logo of the NSA-kissing-cousin Information Awareness Office, scientia est potentia?

Or in the same vein, from the movie Sneakers, whatever the Latin for "no more secrets" is.

You notice I didn't call for the removal of the all-seeing eye from the dollar bill - that is more apropos now than ever, and has a perfectly apt secular reinterpretation.

Actually, that's a really interesting question. How did that ever get there?

Dan brown's theory (in Angel & Demons) is because of the Illuminati/ Free-mason... But I do not believe in conspiracy.
