Friday Humor: "Pastafarianism" And The Church Of The Flying Spaghetti Monster:
Quote:
In what some would call a victory for free speech, Lukas Novy, a follower of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, has been granted permission to wear a sieve on his head in his official ID card. As Prague Daily reports, Novy explains that the plastic kitchenware is a crucial part of his "Pastafarianism" faith. Officials, who initially denied his request, were swayed by his commitment to "His Noodliness," agreeing that this fits in with laws that allows Czech citizens to wear headgear for religious or medical reasons.
Several article commenters point to growing strains amongst formerly unified-in-our-oppressed-minority-status Pastafarians:

There is already a serious schism in the ranks: Those who insist on rinsing their pasta after cooking and those who do not. The fulcrum seems to be the addition of a bit of oil in the boiling water. It's gonna get nasty. A divine intervention may be in order.

That's a COLANDER, not a sieve or a strainer! Don't you people know ANYTHING about other faiths?? Sheesh!

This could get ugly - the surest sign that we're dealing with a "real religion" here.

That's one small step for plastic kitchen sieves, one giant leap and another small step for Pastafarianism ...

Not to mention the schism over whether linguine is heretical or not.

ObDisclaimer: I regard all forms of pasta as being equally valid in the meatballs of His Noodliness, even though some of them are (IMO) rather obscene squiggly bits.

Ramen, PBUT.

And on another talon:

How many followers does a belief system have to have
before it becomes organized and thus reprehensible?

I'll bite. After Judas left The Last Supper, eleven disciples remained. In Jewish canon, at least ten minyan are required for communal religious service. For eleven, is it one to hold the lightbulb and ten to turn the ladder?

OK, thanks for playing...

If you had a really good idea, and you had twelve players (three instructing three), wouldn't eleven be reasonable (assuming one of the juniors dropped out)?

ha! (queue Darth Vader voice): I have you now! The three instructors are not followers, they are leaders. This network had nine followers but one of the juniors dropped out, leaving eight. In other words, the Father, Son and Holy Ghost are not followers.
