It would be really interesting if 2 of the more "popular" threads in the soapbox had their titles swapped.

I trust that the mods can move this to the appropriate thread, if there is such a thing anymore. But that brings up a valid criticism of the current thread title: are atheists the ones from god damned New Jersey? if so then the profanity holds little meaning, for I fear no god who damns only the humans who believe in such a being.

Another hypothesized forum law bites the dust.

The moderators always seem to be willing to flog a dead theism to make it pull a load.

There's only one silly thing, imo, and that is that they felt the need to react to the 10 commandments by putting biblical punishments on the bench. Better just to ignore it.

I find it disturbingly humorous that people's official reasons for hating Christianity always seem to refer to things I see as misunderstandings. Things like,"God teaches us to hate homosexuals," or "Religion harms society."

It won't be over til it's over, and the irony is the war was won a little under 2000 years ago and people are simply be given a chance to choose the winning side.

I find it disturbingly humorous that you appear to find "hate" everywhere you look. Would you care to explain where did you see hate of Christianity this time?

On the lighter side, I found humorous a quoted opinion there that in the U.S. of A., one is afforded "freedom of religion, not freedom from religion." This is such a beautifully loaded statement - and it came not from the side you could have expected. (See the case of Margaret Doughty who declined to kill people on her application and was required to bring forward documentation of her particular religion that taught her that.)

That is indeed a subtle and astute statement, especially coming from someone who was grateful for the "platform to declare Jesus is real" as you note. It strikes me that it would sometimes be difficult to translate the statement into other languages without clumsy paraphrasing, because some other languages - at least the ones I know - make no distinction between (i.e. use the same word for) the prepositions "of" and "from". English quite often seems to have subtleties that other languages lack. Does Russian distinguish between "of" and "from"?

"Secularism" is one of my favourite words. To me secularism encompasses both freedom of religion and freedom from it, giving everyone the freedom to believe whatever they like but no right to impose those beliefs on other people.

Wow!.. Sincerely!

I've never seen a better definition.
