To paraphrase the famous Strother Martin line from Cool Hand Luke, what we need here is nondestructive phase separation. :)
This month's Popular Science includes a DIY centrifuge using a Dremel tool. If you have a Dremel, you could either buy a prefab attachment or handmake one.
I still need to order one meself, would be nice to have during my genetics class

Sounds interesting - got a link you can share? [Either to an online version of the article, or to the needed attachments/accessories].

I did find one interesting gadget on eBay - a hand-cranked kitchen-style centrifuge ... but too pricey for my once-or-twice-yearly needs.

Using a fine-mesh conical kitchen strainer I was able to get a "good enough" result to give to my brother-in-law on his upcoming birthday. The fine layer of "silt" [those beer-mad Germans have a specific word for it, "Trüb", literally hazy/muddy/turbid, but here the adjective is turned into a noun - I expect viniculturing peoples like the Italians & French have similar expressions] on the floor of the bottle now that's it's stood for several weeks can be taken as proof of recipe authenticity. ;)

Over here the term is "Hefeweißen" for the beer. Perhaps I hang out with a crowd which has a different German idiolect.

Re. "Yeast whites" ... As long as the beer is tasty, call it what you like. :)

Clearing out some old closet space this week in preparation for selling some no-longer-useful-to-me gear on eBay ... one of the items is an old TENS unit which I bought years ago for a bout of in-home rehab. Looking to snarf some images from the web, come across the following official webpage from the outfit which since acquired the brand I have:

http://www.toneamatic.com/productDet...uctName=A-TENS

Check out their rendition of "what TENS stands for".
