Also, maybe something like this would be useful?
I should have mentioned - simple cone-style coffee filter is what I tried with the last batch - clogged almost instantly, the sediment appears to have much a finer component than coffee filters are designed for. The wine-filter may be the ticket, but perhaps I can go lower-tech, just find a tea-style filter gauze (i.e. stuff used for homemade tea bundles).

AUncwilly: thanks, that tells me I need higher capacity.

Another approach worth considering: if the particulates are too fine for simple filtering, try coarsening them. The commercial booze makers have been using the technique for centuries using all sorts of materials as coagulating agents. Google terms might include "fining" and "isinglass".

Hmmmm, how hard would it be to "study" what's left after you take the water out of various sodas and whatnot?

Thanks - but if that would prevent me from using the lees to make a delicious "potent smoothie" I'm afraid it's a no-go.

To paraphrase the famous Strother Martin line from Cool Hand Luke, what we need here is nondestructive phase separation. :)

Broadcast starts in a few minutes - let's hope no one inadvertently uses the banned-for-this-show-only jinx phrase "..our fall lineup."

It appears the venue has indeed been moved Westward from Florida - I'm glad someone at Discovery has been paying attention in this thread, and caught the geographical fubar just in time. :)

Let's hope this little quarter-mile stroll is merely a "warmup exercise" for a future walk across the widest part of the GC.

Edit: Well, he made it across. Typically, DC had 90 mins of lead-up noise, roughly half of which was ads. [Based on my informal sampling methodology which consisted of briefly turning on the TV every ~5 mins and seeing if we were in an ad or not].

I was somewhat miffed that DC only supplemented the live picture with a "Time on Wire" counter - they really needed a second "God and Jesus reference" counter to help those of us who muted the sound out of irritation at the constant G&J blather keep track of that vital stat.

Last fiddled with by ewmayer on 2013-06-24 at 03:00 Reason: add post-walk note

LOLOLOL! Reminds me of listening to Nixon's first Inaugural Address and keeping a tally of cliches. I was but knee-high to a merry grasshopper.....well, in high school, actually.

Froome Loses Time Trial But Not His Yellow Jersey: Tony Martin on Wednesday won Stage 11 of the Tour de France. Christopher Froome, who finished second in the stage, is still wearing the yellow jersey as the overall leader.

@NYT: Uh, guys - coming in 2nd place in an individual time trial, just 12 seconds behind the guy who won (and set the 3rd-fastest average speed for an ITT over 20 km in TdF history in doing so), and also greatly boosting your lead over the other guys considered to be top GC contenders, is not generally considered to be "losing" the stage.

Calgary and Toronto, no clue as to recent notable happenings.

Quebec, if you're referring to the train disaster, I commented on that in the RIP thread.

Egypt coup, I started the thread about that in Soap Box.

Your point?
