How about how long we've been doing Prime work? My IPS account was created in Aug 1997, and I was running it a few months before then. 8) 8)

I have no idea how to implement that automatically... The only way I can think of is manually, which I am willing to do, but it would have to be on the honor system since I know of no way to verify the dates...

Before we do that, though, we should get more feedback from the other members to see if it is a reasonable idea... If you can convince the other members that it is a good idea then I'll implement it... Maybe you can post a poll or something...

I do see one problem... I know that I joined in 1996 but all my previous work has been lost and nobody has ever been able to find it in the databases... I know I am not the only one in this situation...

In fact, if whoever has these databases needs a place to host them so they can be examined by the public we have plenty of room... In fact, we have extra MySQL databases available so searching them online might be a possibility...

It is not the number of posts that count, but rather the quality of the posts themselves. There are no ranking system that I know about that will take this into account. So why use rank at all?

if you dont want it based on posts
base it on years

at least they give you experience points kinda

What we need is a "Good Post" button on each post.

When you click it, it registers a vote for the author of the post.

The ranks could then be based on the number of votes instead of posts.

We could even store the vote as a unique key = <post id>:<your id>.
That way, you can't vote for yourself.
And, even if you want to "stuff the ballot box" for someone with only 10 posts, you can only vote for them 10 times.

I suppose we could have a "Bad Post" button that subtracts a vote ...
but that could get ugly.

Doesn't anybody think that, since you may go fishing in an unlimited pool, there are as many Prime as Fermat or perfect numbers or as all other kind on numbers the man can think about? In a sense is a bit strange (I never understood it...) to say thar R is more infinite than N.
But, maybe, this is our ancestral need for ranking...

Yeah, multiple levels of infinity don't make much sense. You're probably right about there being the same number of fermat, mersenne, and total primes. Those sorta things are almost always either finite, or the lowest infinity. It's just that to prove that two sets are an equal infinity, you make a 1 to 1 correlation , which is what happens with mersenne primes & perfect numbers. For a counter-example, go to http://www.math.lsa.umich.edu/~maths.../Lesson3.shtml. There, it shows that there are more real numbers that rational numbers (i.e., a bigger infinity). But if you're as hardcore into mathematics as I am, there is a big difference between infinities. Think of the infinite number of points in a line, then a plane, then in 3d space. Doesn't it seem like each successive one would have more points than the previous, despite both being "infinite"?
