We need a catchy rank system... The stars are in place, and I've used the classic apprentice/journeyman/master rank structure, but that is too boring... All suggestions are welcome...

How about using military style ranks?
I prefer Enlisted Ranks, and Army enlisted at that. You could then use the rank emblems in the avatars if you wanted.

That is an interesting suggestion... I was enlisted from 87 to 96 myself... It probably would make sense to use the rank structure that was around during the Civil War, since they didn't have as many ranks as now...
Once we get enough ideas we'll post a poll to vote on them... |

How about Army ranks representing the amount of CPU years one has crunched.
0 to 5 years= Buck Private (or Recruit) 5 to 10 years= Private 10 to 20 years= Private First Class 20 to 30 years= Corporal 30 to 40 years= Specialist 40 to 50 years= Sergeant 50 to 60 years= Staff Sergeant 60 to 70 years= Sergeant First Class 70 to 80 years= Master Sergeant 80 to 90 years= First Sergeant 90 to 100 years= Sergeant Major 100 and up years= Sergeant Major of The Prime95 Army And to the right of each rank, the actual number of years crunched as of the beginning of that month |

I think hand drawn Avatars automatically get you up one level. That way Max's mess would be worth it. :(
I personally could care about rankings. Stars work well enough. Having people just write up their own cust. title would be cooler than having people post for the simple reason to just be a different title. |

I have never really understood rankings based on posts.
While some people say it promotes posting I do not necessarily agree. But who am I to say, I am a person who reads alot and posts just a little. I like the CPU years idea though. That would promote the idea of a GIMPS board. You can still use controls not tied to the rank if you wanted to limit some aspect of the board. Army 91 - 95 (Enlisted) |

There are some limitations... Syncing the ranks to P90 years would be a nightmare, besides I barely have 2 years done...
I'm not big on posting ranks either, but I think people expect them... I like funny custom titles instead... You can't mix custom titles and rank graphics, either... :( Have you all figured out the cutoff points yet? :) Oh yeah, instead of ranks we could just have a team graphic there... |
