Default WTF ??? P-1 slowdown

I am running one instance of trial factoring and one instance of P-1 on my aging Pentium D setup. It is with P-1 that I have identified a problem which appears to be due to another application, Microsoft Internet Exploder. Running this wreaks havoc on prime95, slowing the P-1 by 20 - 30 sec per iteration, and also serious disrupts the trial factoring instance.

What is worse, the P-1 instance never recovers, even after closing IE. The trial factoring usually, but not always, does recover. I suspect that this is due to ads using flushplayer, since browsing this site does not incur the problem. Only a reboot completely fixes the problem.

What can be done ??? I could jack the priority of the P-1 instance to runtime and let IE thrash the TF core. I shall test to see if this is effective.

FYI, P-1 is allocated 1024 MB of 2048 MB RAM installed. I doubt that the light Office suite that I use comes close to using that much memory.

How can I disable flushplayer? I cant find it ... used to be in system directory, as macromedia ... I have had this problem before, and dealt with it ...

Thanks in advance

You'll probably get better results if you use your Windows and IE version in the Google. I guessed.
