The i5-2500 is around $200, and gets almost the same performance as the i7 x4, at $100 less. (The only reason I got an i7 is because I had a friend interning at Intel who got it to me for half off
.)

I prefer AMD, and only bought my i5-2500k because it was so far beyond anything AMD could even dream of making when I bought it (and still today too).
