1) you or Xyzzy 2) Would likely take an overclocked 4 core, a standard 6 or 8 core machine, or a dual CPU server. 3) Hard to say. A 560 Ti on theory can produce 168 while a 580 can produce 316. In looking at the bandwidth difference, 128G vs 192G, there must be another factor not seen since with a 50% increase in bandwidth, output almost doubles. The 680 is listed at 352G bandwidth, almost double the 580, so in theory one must think at least 632, but add in other factors and it may actually hit 800-900+ (PCIe3.0x16 may also add in another factor) 4) Not really enough information, but using what is known, a GTS 450 can complete a 27M DC in ~4.5 days, a GTX 560 in ~2.2 days, a GTX 560 Ti in ~2.1 days and a GTX 580 in ~.75 day. This doesn't seem to scale as close as mfaktc in that the 580 can produce ~2.8x(vice ~2 for mfaktc) what a 560 Ti can, which produces ~2x(roughly same) as much as a 450. Given the conclusions in 3) above, then the 680 should be able to do 3-4 DC/day. Edit: I notice they list the GTX 660 as being equal to a 580, 186G vs 196G bandwidth. We are happy with our setup now (1150 GHz days/day) and are very unlikely to purchase any new hardware until it has been "beta tested" by mainstream users for at least a year.
We usually buy or build two boxes per year but right now everything we have (6 boxes and 4 GPUs) is fairly new and our electricity bill is reasonable. Pretty soon a single GPU will be able to duplicate what our four do.

hmmm I don't know if the 'boost' clock will produce any difference for mfacktc... that's just 50 Mhz... 5%..And if this need much more power/wattage it won't be energy-efficient.

this could be good afterall, no matter if I will get one (most probably not) but the prices of gtx580 will go down a bit because of gtx680 will hit the market, and I will be able to buy another tandem of gtx580
, or eventually buy some water cooling plates for the dice I already have...

You know, I think that may not be a bad idea... I was getting nervous because all the "leaked" articles so far only mention gaming (not altogether unexpected), but nothing referred to GPGPU... and then I saw this "article":
Nvidia's GTX680 gets thrashed |
