Default Rehashing old stuff (Xbox)

I just came across this old post and thread.

Have there been any developments since then, with respect to running any kind of GIMPS-related software on a current Xbox 360 model?

I know that most of the action lately has been on the GPU side, but just curious...

Current generation Xbox 360s run a triple core PowerPC architecture CPU from 2005. Not only does none of the Prime95 assembly apply, but (though the clock speeds are >3 GHz) performance per core is probably significantly less than any of the computers we can buy, even from a few years ago. The development time would be far greater than the benefit we get, especially considering that the overlap between Xbox owners and GIMPSters is many orders of magnitude smaller than the overlap between GIMPSters and desktop computer owners (where by GIMPSter I mean someone really dedicated to it, not just some guy on the internet who hardly ever uses his comp). Unless someone got Glucas to include PrimeNet interaction and error checking (and bit shift, if not already there) then it won't be of any use to us. (No Xbox owners will be fine with manually getting/reporting work.)

Same story for GPU, namely it's 2005 hardware.

This thread might deserve being revived when the next generation of consoles come out, but even then I wouldn't expect too much.

Thanks Dubslow, another very informative reply!

Too bad about the Xbox, but now I understand why nobody's taken it up for our purposes.
