No problem, ask any question you want .

We all started out somewhere. Personally I read through 104 forum pages on the ars forum before I started.

Welcome onboard

There is a school of thought that actually running Prime95 will help prevent thermal shock to the CPU and system board by keeping it at a relatively steady state temperature. Also modern PC's are designed to run this way. Even Intel has used Prime95 to ensure the reliability of thier chips at a sustained rate.

If your computer is a laptop, you might overtax its fan. If it's a regular desktop computer, there shouldn't be a problem.

Prime95 does a lot of calculations, and that does indeed cause your CPU chip to generate more heat than otherwise. But for most computers that doesn't cause any problems.

I've been running Prime95 on an 800 Mhz laptop for nearly 3 years. The fan has been running continuously that entire time. It rattles a smidgen now, but shows no sign of quitting.
