As a new user to the FactorDB Forum, it seems everything related to FactorDB is contained in a single thread with (at this time) about 1300 posts. I presume this is an artifact from before there was a FactorDB subforum. I don't see a formal place to submit defects. So, I hope it's OK to start a new thread.
I have manually submitted some factorizations. In many cases, I have also tried to submit the factorization method. I factored C313 of 5^717+1 using P+1 (B1=1000000). [Software was standard ECMNET I've been using for ~3 years.] The result was a prp30 and a prp284, completing the factorization of 5^717+1. However, FactorDB won't allow me to enter the factorization method. Under the ECM pull-down for the p30 (450648897001826715815956507201), I enter Method [Williams P+1]. Under B1, I enter 1000000. I have left B2 / Sigma blank, I've tried filling them with zeros, and I've tried putting the maximum value for B2. But, FactorDB complains: "Err: Calculated grouporder 450648897001826715815956507202<30> is not within B1/B2 bounds (B1=1000000, B2=0). Please check your result!" I have double-checked my logs, and the method *is* P+1, and B1 *is* one million. Am I missing something? |

add your B2 bound and it should work

I too do quite a bit of ECM work. Ever so often I get the same error when I submit an ECM find. Don't know what is happening.
I just sign-off and stomp away from the computer. :-) (Don't have any prior logs. The factor was submitted and that's what counts.) |

After looking at both the p+1 and p-1 decomposition of that factor, it appears that the factor was found by a degenerate p-1. I don't know whether putting the correct "sigma" will help it when reporting it as a "p+1". you can report it as a p-1, if you like.
